This week the 7th graders learned about the artist Thank You X. Thank You X is a street artist who does geometric murals. He says there is hidden meaning behind each of his works, and each cube has its own story. For this project each students gets to make their own cube. The 7th graders decided to do black as the top of their cubes, to show unity within the class. They then designed the rest of the cubes to show their own individuality. This will be displayed as a temporary mural in the hallway at DCHS. Pictures to come!
Students made and designed their own sketchbooks! They decorated the front and back covers using the collage method. Collage is a great way to start the year because it is method that allows all skill levels to be successful. The covers had to contain their name, the school year, and a mantra or positive quote. They then folded paper and adhered them together to create accordion like pages. We will be using these books throughout the semester to take notes and practice new mediums.
